Why I'm Running
Today I'm proud to officially launch my campaign for At-Large County Commissioner in Washington County. This race is about one simple promise: I will treat your tax bill like it's my own. Because it is.
Read More →A working man. A neighbor. A servant of Washington County.
I've spent my whole life in Washington County. My family's roots run deep here — in law enforcement, in EMS, in local government, and in ministry. I was raised to believe that service isn't a slogan. It's something you do, every day, whether anybody's watching or not.
For the last several years, I've served as Assistant Project Manager and Estimator at Sadler Landscaping. Before that, I worked my way through every kind of job a working man takes on — warehouses, parts counters, equipment seats, office desks. I learned how to manage budgets the hard way: by being responsible for every dollar.
I'm a Captain at Roper Volunteer Fire Department, where I started as a junior fireman and earned every rank I hold. I'm a Deacon at Zion's Chapel Church of Christ. I'm Treasurer of the Washington County Chamber of Commerce. I chair the Washington County Republican Party. And I've served on the Downtown Development Association.
Washington County is in a better spot than a lot of folks give it credit for. We have commissioners who've put in real work. We have neighbors who show up for each other. We have a community worth fighting for. The work isn't done — and I want to be one of the people in that room when the next decisions get made.
If you send me to the Board of Commissioners, I'll honor that trust the same way I've honored every responsibility I've been given: by showing up, doing the work, and answering to the people who put me there.
Next year's Board of Commissioners will set Washington County's property tax rate. I will fight to keep increases as low as humanly possible — by scrutinizing every line of the budget and saying no when no is the right answer. Every dollar the county spends came out of somebody's pocket first.
Every vote I take will face one question: Would I vote for this at my own kitchen table? If I wouldn't justify it to my own family, I won't justify it with your money. That's the standard. Simple, honest, and consistent.
Fiscal discipline isn't a slogan. It's math. Every dollar added to the county budget puts pressure on the tax rate. I'll bring real budget experience to the Board — the kind earned in the field, on job sites, and at the firehouse, not in a lecture hall.
As a Captain at Roper VFD, I know firsthand what it takes to keep this county safe. Our volunteer fire departments, EMS, and Sheriff's Office deserve commissioners who back them with action, not just appreciation. I'll be that commissioner.
Washington County is built on farmers, watermen, small business owners, teachers, deputies, and trades folks. Every county decision should land softly on their kitchen tables. Not on the backs of working families.
Public service is a job, not a title. I'll attend every meeting, read every packet, listen to every neighbor, and answer to the people who put me there. That's the standard I've held every responsibility I've ever been given. The Board of Commissioners deserves nothing less.
Jonathan Sawyer is ready. He's been ready. I've watched him grow into a man of real character — the kind of man this community needs in leadership. Send him to the Board.
Endorsements are being added as the campaign continues. Want to publicly endorse Jonathan? Contact the campaign.
This isn't a million-dollar campaign. It's a community campaign. The truth is, races like this one are won by neighbors talking to neighbors — at the post office, at church, at the feed store, on the front porch.
If you believe Washington County deserves a working man on the Board of Commissioners — somebody who'll fight to keep your tax bill low and treat every dollar like his own — I'd be honored to have you on the team.
No commitment is too small. Whether you can knock on doors, make calls, host a coffee, or just put up a yard sign — every bit of help moves this campaign forward.
Every contribution — large or small — fuels the work of meeting voters where they are. Your gift pays for yard signs, mailers, gas to drive to neighborhoods, and the materials it takes to run a real local campaign.
